Trueleaf Finance, a small-business funding service in Saginaw, Michigan, helps owners request business lines of credit from funding partners. This page explains how a credit line works, why businesses with uneven or seasonal revenue use one, which Saginaw County sectors could use one, how qualifying works, and why nobody can promise how long approval takes.
| Pays for | Recurring, uneven or seasonal gaps |
|---|---|
| Repayment | Interest on what is out; paid down, drawn again |
| Security | Receivables, stock or an all-assets lien |
| Who decides | The funding partner |
Inside a Small Business Line of Credit
A partner fixes a ceiling. You draw any amount up to it, interest runs only on the outstanding balance, and as you repay, the room opens up again. Some lines are revolving for a year or more and then renewed; others have a draw period followed by a repayment period in which no new draws are allowed. Ask which kind an offer is, and what fees apply to keeping the line open.
A line suits needs that repeat. For a single purchase that will last years, compare the total dollar cost of a term loan with the line; for a one-off payroll gap, working capital may be enough.
A Seasonal Line of Credit for Uneven Revenue
A business can earn most of its money in a few months and spend steadily all year; a garden center stocking before spring, a landscaper buying mulch and paying crews before the first invoice is paid, and a retailer stocking for the holidays are examples. A seasonal line of credit is drawn ahead of the busy stretch and repaid from its receipts.
Partners reviewing a seasonal business want to see the pattern, not just an average. Twelve months of bank statements, or more if you have them, show when deposits rise and fall. Mark the months you expect to draw and the months you expect to repay; a partner who can see the cycle is reading a plan rather than guessing at one.
This page does not claim any Saginaw County sector is seasonal. Only your own statements can show whether your revenue is.
Three Saginaw County, MI Sectors Where a Line Could Fit
Retail stores and boutiques. In 2023 the county had 121 clothing and accessories stores, 53 general merchandise stores and 34 furniture and home furnishings stores with employees (CBP 2023, NAICS 448, 4523, 442). A line can fund buying ahead of sales. Shops have their own page: retail and boutique funding.
Construction and general contractors. The county's construction sector had 348 employer establishments in 2023, 62.1% with fewer than five employees (CBP 2023, NAICS 23). Materials and wages go out before a draw comes in. More on contractor funding.
Law firms. 72 legal-services offices had employees in 2023 (CBP 2023, NAICS 5411). Case costs advanced for clients and uneven fee receipts could make a revolving limit practical. Firms have their own page: law firm funding.
What a Partner Reads to Qualify a Business Line of Credit
Partners may look at time in business, annual revenue, bank-statement history, existing debts and the owner's credit. Because a line stays open, they also look at how balances move: an account that dips and recovers on a steady rhythm may read better than one that drains and stays low. Some lines are secured by receivables or inventory, which partners verify with aging reports or stock lists.
- Business bank statements for recent months
- The most recent business tax return and a year-to-date profit-and-loss statement
- Every loan, lease and advance now running, with its payment
- For a secured line: an accounts receivable aging report or inventory list
Getting Approved for a Business Line of Credit: Hard or Just Thorough?
A line can get a closer look than a one-time loan, because the partner is committing to a limit you may draw on months from now. That is not the same as hard; it means the file has to show the business can carry the full limit if drawn. Nobody can tell you the odds in advance, and we do not quote them.
Line of Credit Fees, Renewal and Reviews
Lines can carry costs beyond interest: an origination fee, a fee for keeping the line open, or a fee each time you draw. Some lines are reviewed each year, and the partner may change the limit or terms at renewal. Ask how renewal works, what records the partner will want and what happens to any balance if the line is not renewed.
Approval Time on a Business Line of Credit Varies
It varies by partner, by the size of the line and by how quickly records arrive. A complete file leaves less to chase than one assembled piece by piece, so one thing you can control is having the statements and returns ready. We do not promise turnaround times. Read how a request moves for the steps, or compare other structures on the business loan options page.
